The 300-piece limited edition Newton Pilot Moonphase Chronograph, with an edition plaque at 9 o’clock, is the flagship timepiece of the series. Within the case resides one of the most complicated movements ever devised, a DAV 3051 based on an ETA/Valjoux 7751: the automatic calibre displays hours, minutes and seconds. It boasts a stopwatch function, a moon phase display and a date hand tipped with a red airplane silhouette, while the weekday, month and time are shown as a 24-hour display. And so far, we’ve only mentioned the functions! This top-of-the-range model is also distinguished by its fine embellishment – including pearlized and côte circulaire bridges, blued screws, rhodium plating and a newly constructed, highly skeletonized DAVOSA rotor with Geneva stripes.
The movement is set within a contemporary case with a water resistance of 5 ATM, featuring a screw-down back with four individual screws, a viewing window and a perfectly proportioned 44 mm diameter and 14 mm height. Wherever your gaze falls, the Newton Pilot Moonphase Chronograph displays class in every detail: Matt and polished surfaces alternate, the bezel continue the gentle curve of the transparent, anti-reflective sapphire glass, the conical crown has a knurled edge and displays the DAVOSA star atop. The pushers are encased within a stained cuff, while they themselves are polished steel.
Even the optionally blue, grey or black dial, with its fine sunburst finish, underscores the exceptional level of quality in the production. Circular guilloche counters are set one level deeper. With the blue and grey dials, the raised steel figures with a stained brushed finish are applied by hand – a detail that is reflected in the frame of the hands. This serves to increase readability and underscores the coherent design.
The black version is optimized for the particular needs of pilots: The hands of all the versions are applied with white luminescent material BGW09, however, the black version also has raised luminescent figures. The blueish light ensures precise readability even in darkness.
Depending on the dial color, the Newton Pilot Moonphase comes with a navy blue, umbra brown or black, smooth cowhide strap with modern contrast stitching. Extra thought has even gone into the stitching, which is designed to ensure additional stability.
